Board of Directors

KMS is governed by a Board of Directors.

 

MEMBERS:

The Board may have up to ten members; one member will be a parent with a child in the school.  The parent member will serve a one-year term; all others will serve a two-year term.  Terms may be extended, should the Board determine necessary.  The KMS Director also serves on this board.

 

Criteria for board members:

  • Actively support fundraising efforts of the school

  • Support the philosophy of the school

  • Collaborate with members and KMS Director in strategic planning and implementing of plans

  • Be willing to attend four meetings per year

Roles & responsibilities:

  • KMS Director role and responsibility:

    • Program development and implementation

    • Budgeting, staffing

    • Informing Board of program needs

    • Planning meeting agenda and scheduling meetings

    • Report on the day-to-day functioning of the program

    • Lead Board in strategic planning and implementing of plans

 

  • President – someone who can advocate for the school both with parents and the community; presides at meetings; supports Director.

  • Finance Director/Treasurer - authority and responsibility for the safekeeping of the funds and securities

  • Building and Maintenance

  • Secretary - custodian of the minute books; accurately keeps minutes of meetings; in absence of President, performs those duties at Board meetings

  • Community Relations – has broad awareness of community resources and activities which impact the school

  • Grant Writing – serve as adviser and guide for our grant writing efforts

  • Legal Counsel

 

            Any two offices may be held by the same person, except the offices of President and Secretary.

Meetings:

The board meetings held January, April, August and October, are closed to non-members. Time can be allotted for any discussion parents need to bring to Board by submitting a written request two weeks in advance to the Director, per the guidelines in the Parent Handbook.
